Budget airline easyJet has exciting news for travellers in Essex and beyond. The airline has announced three fresh flight routes departing from Southend Airport, set to begin in March 2025.
These routes will connect passengers to the Spanish cities of Reus and Almeria, as well as the beloved Mediterranean island of Malta.
Earlier this year, easyJet made headlines by opening a three-aircraft base at Southend Airport. Alongside this expansion, the airline introduced seven new package holiday destinations: Gran Canaria and Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Dalaman and Antalya in Turkey, Enfidha in Tunisia, Marrakech in Morocco, and Pisa in Italy.
Both flight-only seats and easyJet holiday packages are now available for booking across all ten destinations. The inaugural flights are scheduled to take off on March 30, 2025. With these additions, Southend Airport now offers a total of 17 routes, spanning beach, city, and ski destinations. Prices for the new routes start at just £21.99 for a one-way ticket to Reus.
easyJet’s return to Southend Airport comes after a temporary withdrawal during the Covid pandemic. The move not only benefits travellers but also contributes to the local economy. Approximately 130 direct jobs for pilots and crew will be created in the UK, with additional indirect employment opportunities within easyJet and the airport.
Southend Airport CEO Marc Taylor emphasized the airport’s commitment to providing a seamless travel experience for residents in the east of London, Essex, and East Anglia. He thanked easyJet for expanding the range of choices available to passengers. With quick and convenient direct connections—just 53 minutes from London Liverpool Street by train and 42 minutes from Stratford—travellers can now access an even wider array of fantastic European destinations.
