Anguilla, a flat coral and limestone island, stretches 16 miles in length and 3.5 miles in width, situated at the northern most tip of the Leeward Islands.

History and Culture:

  • Ancient Arawak Society: The island’s history dates back over 3,500 years when the Arawaks arrived from South America. Their deep religious beliefs centred around the sun, moon, and sacred caverns.
  • Pirates and British Colonization: Anguilla has tales of swashbuckling pirates, and some believe that pirate William Kidd buried treasure here. Later, British colonization left its mark on the island.
  • Close-Knit Community: With a population of around 14,000, Anguillans are self-sufficient and welcoming.

What to Do:

  • Beaches: Anguilla boasts 33 stunning beaches. Meads Bay, Shoal Bay, and Rendezvous Bay are celebrated for their beauty.  Relax on the soft sand, swim in the turquoise waters or enjoy a beachfront drinks and dinner.
  • Snorkelling and Diving: Explore endless snorkel and dive spots, including a barrier reef, shipwrecks, and marine parks. Encounter stingrays and impressive coral formations.
  • Horse Riding: Ride along long, empty beaches – perfect for confident riders. The Seaside Stables offer Caribbean-bred Paso Finos.
  • Sunset Crusing:  Charter a boat, explore, sip cocktails and watch the sun dip!

What It’s Like:

  • Luxury and Discretion: Anguilla bypasses crowded resorts and condos. Expect flawless service, exquisite restaurants, and refined sophistication.
  • No Shopping Malls or Casinos: Anguilla keeps its charm intact by avoiding commercialization. Chuck Norris even lived here in a mansion overlooking the ocean!
  • Warm Hospitality: Everyone seems to know everyone.

Anguilla appeals to travellers seeking tranquillity, natural beauty, and a taste of Caribbean luxury without the crowds. Whether you’re a beach lover, a history enthusiast, or simply seeking relaxation, this pint-sized paradise awaits!
