The Foreign Office has issued a travel advisory for Brits planning trips to Turkey, Egypt, and the UAE, highlighting potential disruptions during the upcoming Ramadan period. UK travellers are advised to be mindful of the customs and practices observed during this holy month.
The sacred month of Ramadan is expected to begin around 28th February or 1st March 2025 and will last for approximately 29 to 30 days. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has advised travellers to seek further guidance from their tour guides, hotels, or business contacts upon arrival.
During daylight hours throughout Ramadan, actions such as eating, drinking, smoking, or even chewing gum in public can be viewed as disrespectful, even if done inside a car. Additionally, playing loud music, dancing, or using foul language in public spaces is strongly discouraged.
The FCDO’s advisory aims to ensure that UK travellers respect the cultural and religious practices in these countries. It’s crucial for travellers to be aware of these guidelines to avoid any unintended disrespect or inconvenience during their stay.
